Festival Background

In its initial year the ASOF was restricted to primary school sections. This expanded the following year to include secondary school string ensembles and orchestras.

The ASOF is a non-competitive, educational event.

  • Musical Directors are free to choose the event level into which they wish to enter their ensemble.
  • There are no set works performed; all ensembles are to play a varied program to a set time limit.
  • Australian compositions are encouraged.
  • All ensembles will receive an oral adjudication of their performance and a rating of Gold, Silver of Bronze based on the event level they have entered.

The ASOF will be held at The Clancy Auditorium, University of NSW, Kensington, Australia. Read about us on this site or contact us for further information regarding the event.

We cater for primary and secondary school string ensembles and orchestras of all sizes and we have a range of events to suit ensembles of all ability levels.

So whether your ensemble has just been formed or has been playing for years, get on board and join the fun of the Festival!
